| The Soufriere Marine Management Area
(SMMA) was setup in July 1992, to protect the marine wildlife and
reefs immediately surrounding the town. Some of the best dive sites
in the Caribbean are found in the waters of the SMMA.
The SMMA has created special marine reserves along the
coast to enable nursery reefs to flourish creating a vibrant,
colourful and sustainable marine environment.
We at AADivers strongly believe in, and support, the
SMMA's mission. ZONING ARRANGEMENTS:
o Marine Reserves: Areas of high ecological value set
aside for the protection of all marine flora and fauna, scientific
research, and the enjoyment of divers and snorkelers. o Fishing
Priority Areas: Fishing takes precedence over all other
activities. o Recreational Areas: Important sites for public
recreation. o Multiple Use Areas: Fishing, diving, snorkeling,
and other legitimate activities are allowed, once the general rules
of the SMMA are observed. o Yacht Mooring Areas: Moorings have
been provided for visiting yachts. |
